What Wet Insulation Does to the Ceiling Cavity
Insulation’s job is to trap air; when it is wet, it traps water instead, holding moisture against the ceiling board, the framing and the fixings. That changes the whole drying equation: a cavity with wet insulation stays damp long after the visible surface has dried, and the structure below it keeps absorbing moisture in the meantime.
Wet insulation is also a mould and corrosion factor — it provides the damp, warm, dark conditions where growth happens, and it keeps fasteners and timber wet. The cavity is not dry until the insulation is either dry or gone.
